2014 National Contests
The 2014 competition year is now fully upon us and Michigan APF would like to take this opportunity to make sure you’re filled in on the years national competitions and how they work. There are four national competitions in the APF/AAPF:
- APF Senior Nationals – Grand Rapids, MI: In this context “senior” is not in reference to an age division, but rather means the highest level national competition of the APF. The only age division at Senior Nationals is open. Everyone competes open regardless of age, no master/teen ect.
- APF Master, Teen & Junior Nationals – Waxahachie, TX: The compliment to APF Senior Nationals; APF Master, Teen & Junior Nationals has the Master (and sub-master), Teen, and Junior age divisions but not open.
- APF Single-Ply Nationals – Orlando, FL: APF national competition for equipped single-ply only (other APF Nationals are multiply). All age divisions.
- AAPF Nationals – Baton Rouge, LA: The only AAPF National competition, includes all age divisions, raw and equipped single and multiply.
In order to compete in the equipped division at a national competition you must first obtain a qualifying total within one year of the national meet. There is no qualification if you are competing raw. A full description of qualifying requirements can be found in this post: National Qualification Requirements (describes APF Senior nationals but applies to all national meets). General meet information and entry forms for all these meets can be found on our Upcoming Meets page. Generally both national and world records can be set at national meets.
National meets are a lot of fun, don’t be scared off by them if you think you’re too new to the sport or not good enough. If you qualify and want to do it, then by all means do it. You’ll have a blast, get to meet some of the best lifters in the country, and come back home with memories you’ll never forget. APF Senior nationals is in Michigan this year so that’s a no brainer, but please support our brothers in Louisiana, Florida, and Texas. Putting on these meets takes a lot of work and they need the competitors there to support them.
